I didn't see it specified that he broke up/divorced his wife. Do you think is the case because he didn't have the ring anymore? Because that gives the manga a more hopeful ending.

Thank you, thanks to you I reread this yesterday and I realized I skipped some pages without noticing!! Now the story makes more sense.
The ending is confusing but I understood the title now. Why did the author have to make it so vague. So mc and highschool friend will eventually date from what I read right? They both just broke up with their lovers so they don't want to immediately start dating. And now mc is feeling guilty about his ex... Like how he felt guilty about his highschool friend... Crazy
