I think that they qualify it by if they show the privates though
Shounen AI is innocent, nonsexual homosexuality. Like puppy love, or just really blurred lines of a bromance.
Not always, some yaoi don't have smut but that doesn't necessarily make them shounen ai. The difference between yaoi and smut doesn't stop at the sexual content
