i like them together. There’s so much hurt from both sides. I hope there’s a forgiving arc and more chasing arc. The only reason why i’m tolerating him cause he’s not like those really red flag

...but he made her want to die like twice.

What more does he have to do at this point for you to consider him a red flag lmao? He literally drove her to suicide multiple times, didn't give a shit when she miscarried, treated her like shit when she was shot, didn't care that her doctors and staff were treating her like garbage, and removed her from her support network when she was just beginning to get her life back together

I think they're both broken in unique and harmful ways. Annette is our MC so ofc we see more of the direct effect of Heiner without seeing him as deeply, *yet*. We're slowly, along with Annette, seeing more of and understanding more of Heiner. Even here she says he knows all her preferences, but never took advantage of the piano to torment her. It's because he did actually care about her, even though he was feeling (and acting) massively conflicted.
Annette isn't written as a ditz who is just gonna accept everything because she liked him once upon a time (like other stories). She's written with strength and her thoughts and feelings that will lead to them ending up together will make sense even if chat doesn't like it.

I'm sorry but I still stand by he doesn't deserve her and never will, he drove her to commit suicide, didn't give a shit about and treated her as not human, and even said so, no amount of trauma for will excuse this or redeem him, it's not because We only see her pov we've seen his pov multiple times and all he does is blame her, like is he for real, if he stubs his toe he will blame her. Just because we see him looking tired is not gonna make me sympathize with him, I mean boo hoo. He literally is doing it all for his own satisfaction, taking her away from her new found support and peace just for his own desires. Like I'm sorry but he's just trying to ease his own pain without thinking of her.

I will say this is well written, and I like don't get me wrong it's a entertaining to see Annette become independent but aggravating at the same time to see heiner pull her back 10 steps.

See, I'm just not seeing anything heiner is doing post-divorce as pulling her back 10 steps? She's had small panics when shes seen him, especially early on, but is largely alright.

Like post-divorce, what has he really done to her other than keep tabs on her to an extent (either by reaching out to kathryn or the report he got when she was on the front lines). I wouldn't call pulling her from the front lines pulling her back 10 steps. A misguided way to protect her from a likely death? Yes.
I'm not sure what newfound support she was taken from other than the front lines. If there's something else, please remind me bc i def don't remember lol
Like while misguided and very conflicted, he has always cared for her wellbeing (poorly, ofc, but still nonetheless), and leaving her on the front lines wouldn't mesh well with that.

I don't even think in his povs we've seen he's solely blaming her. We see him blame himself as well. She just represented, at the time, both what he loved and what he hated. It's all about the conflicting feelings with him

I also don't think he's the sole driver in her attempts at suicide. The impetus, yeah, but we've seen a lot at play for her. The whole nation hates her, her father was killed in front of her, she cant do her one hobby, and she recognizes her ignorance's role in the suffering of others in a way that makes her feel that the people of the nation's feelings are reasonable.

We see both of them blame themselves for big things including the death and suffering of others
I think part of the story is that it's *not* about what you "deserve". It's about what you do.
