Let's say it's something very dangerous. It kind of makes sense for him to look for it. The scales weighing out if he's a good or a bad father are quite harsh on this one, because clearly, he wasn't around, he was neglective as fuck, but he did have a reason for it, which ironically also has something to do with him being a father. I don't like White as a character, but I must admit there's more nuance there than simply him being a shitty father.
Please take the details with a grain of salt, I read the novel ages ago. But basically [SPOILER]

It's the stillborn child. The "real" Ruppel. I don't like how they omitted this, but the 2nd Prince was called Ruppel, and when the 3rd Prince was born, not only does the mother keep calling him the 2nd Prince time and time again, whenever she has a delulu fit, she also called the 3rd Prince the same, pretending it was that child. But now, after that one time she tried to resurrect him, there's an actual undead Ruppel running around. She didn't fail to resurrect at least "something". And even though he's "just" a vampire, he's an absurd abomination and extremely strong. Again, I don't remember all of the details, but basically because White sees himself as the one at fault and because he's still his father, he needs to be the one to kill him, but he's mostly looking for him ever since he left the holy empire. If I remember correctly, original Ruppel shows up in Aslan for the first time, shortly after the scenario we just witnessed.
honestly that reason of his sounds like an excuse i mean yes it's reasonable since it's his son but also unreasonable like he has other sons too and it's impossible that he didn't receive news of what's happening in the holy empire right?like his first wife being dead them his first born being in danger like bro HE COULD HAVE GO HOME and check on them but he didn't and completely wasted 11 years
Who is this deadbeat father even looking for that's more important that he can leave his first wife and sons just like that?
