i thought it was more like the rut triggered the pain? like how strain can make old injuries ache. so maybe with all the adrenaline/pheromones pumping through his system in prep for rut, it made his bullet and stab wound ache

Oof love me a man that's a beast in the sheets. That aside, I guess it makes sense that the pain in his shoulder/the place he was shot triggered his rut, but I wonder why it's hurting that bad??
