You’re saying that it’s weird for people to feel such strong hatred for Jaekyung in part because he is fictional. I am pointing out that it’s perfectly normal for people to react strongly to fiction and I used people crying over movies as an example of this. If you think it’s normal for people to feel so strongly as to cry over a movie depicting fictional events, then why would it be abnormal to feel strongly over this webtoon that is also depicting fictional events?

Well yeah and I said that not everyone is going to react like you. You said I was weird for saying that you might just be into Jaekyung and what he does to Dan—aren’t you just admitting to that being true here? I’m not even saying you’re wrong to for that, but. LOL.
It’s fine if you like Jaekyung and even find him to be an interesting character. It’s fine if you like that he’s an asshole. Some people find that kind of character thrilling and engaging. Others do not. Even people who know how BL stories work can come to hate Jaekyung. And in fact I think for some people he’s an even more frustrating character precisely because despite him being so hateable, he’s going to end up with Dan who has been nothing but an angel (at least if Jaekyung doesn’t undergo sufficient enough character development). Whereas for other people, they like that kind of dynamic (grump x sunshine), and look forward to it being fulfilled.
I think it’s a matter of engagement with the material, suspension of belief, genre conventions, and writing…based on your responses it seems to be you’re suspending your disbelief and coming at the story at more of a distance from the actual events taking place throughout it, because you’re reading this with the genre conventions in mind and coming at it with certain expectations. Other people are more deeply immersed in this one story in and of itself and what’s happening within it, taking it at face value, so Jaekyung’s actions and their impact on others read loud and clear to them. Like, you’re calling Jaekyung just “rude”—to me that feels like a light word for his actions throughout the story, so it suggests that maybe there’s a different degree of seriousness with which we’re taking his actions to be. Which I know to be true because several times you and others have compared Jaekyung to other semes in other stories who have done worse. While that might be true, it doesn’t make Jaekyung’s actions within his own story any good, does it?
And again, as far as I can tell, Jaekyung was purposefully written to be an asshole with little nuance to his actions and behaviors thus far. So if you take this story at face value and you see Jaekyung for what he is and you experience that for like, 50+ chapters without anything changing, then of course it becomes incredibly easy to hate Jaekyung.

I think you’re conflating “hating a character” with “hating a whole story.” I think you’re also conflating “hating how a character is written” with “hating how a character behaves.” You can hate a character and how they behave while still liking the story as a whole and liking the way that the character is written. I don’t think anyone right now likes how Jaekyung behaves towards Dan—but they like the story overall and/or how Jaekyung is written and want to see the story to the end.
Me personally I can’t say I like this story LOOOL but I do still want to see it to the end.

Damn they cut my shit off. I said that I distinctly remember you saying that you felt disgusted by the loan sharks and Dan’s former employer during those scenes where they attempt to sexually assault and rape him because they felt too real. You DO care about how characters behave in their stories just like anyone else does, it’s just that you give a free pass to Jaekyung because he’s one of the main characters and you’re willing to read more nuance into him.

honestly i don't want to butt into this conversation because what everyone's saying is going right over your head but lemme get this right: you say you liked jaekyung right after his face reveal. is that your only criteria for liking or disliking a character? so as long as he's handsome you don't care what happens in the story?
How come toxic seme haters are here reading jinx?
Oh, I get you (≡^∇^≡) he's so handsome you can't stop reading, you'd prefer him being bo-- kind. You feel odd following each of his actions even though he's a jerk, so you feel the need to trash talk him to feel better after
