I fw this comment, but i think the reason he was so weak in these scenes is because hes afraid of the king's title and is holding back since he used to be his mentor or because hes afraid of the consequences.
I think he still believes if he holds back and doesn't attack the kind he might still has a chance.
Not to mention how mentally and physically exhausted he was in those scenes.
