PILGYEON.

Pilgyeon really struck me. I am not justifying his actions, and I am never siding with his wrongdoings, but I believe his end is really cruel for him. Soongap is the very reason he tried so hard, but in the end, Soongap was erased from him. I think it's his retribution for the things that he did, but it really makes me so sad. As a child, Pilgyeon witnessed things that no one should, and yet he chose to prioritize the one promise he could hold onto: to look after Soongap. Pilgyeon’s efforts, though misguided at times, come from a place of deep care and desperation. He wants to do right by Soongap, even if it’s flawed or self-serving. He is caught between a desire to protect Soongap and his own internal struggles—a combination of naivety and goodness. And all his life, right before he loses everything, including his memory, he wakes up each day and continues to push through life, showing up for Soongap even when his heart is broken. His persistence, even when his heart is shattered, speaks to his resilience and the complexity of his character. Pilgyeon is a tragic yet deeply human character, struggling to navigate his love, his past, and his sense of duty.

I agree. Thinking about it maybe this act of retribution (him forgetting about soongap) is also a way of redemption. What a complex character indeed.
