Yuh cuz he used the ghost guys to make a wish and one of them was to be bound to MC which is forbidden and stuff so their string of fate is cursed and it's the reason why MC continues to suffer via bad luck and near death experiences. If ML admits to liking him, I think it basically confirms MC's death warrant
I think I forgot sumthn cuz I remembered there's a reason why ML doesn't want to admit he likes MC and if he does sumthn bad will happen
