This is my second time reading this one and I remember being so disappointed at the ending last time, but now I feel different coming back to it years later. I know for a lot of people it seems rushed but ending on an unfinished game with Akira and Hikaru while the "next gen" watch on feels really thematically appropriate. And I do think that the series just wouldn't have been able to go on too much longer without Sai. While I am sad that there was no reveal (especially Hikaru telling Touya Kouyou the truth about Sai), the "hand of God" never seemed like something we would get to see and this really was more a story about two kids coming into their own and I feel like that was achieved. I really do love this manga and I hope the comments about the disappointing ending don't discourage others from picking it up. I really don't think it ruins the series one bit and I like the chance to come up with my own ideas for Hikaru's future in my head. :)
