okay so i didn't actually read the novel in depth ( i couldnt continue reading that shit) but i think thats legitimately what happened? i was shocked too the first time i read it.
i thought phillip would've somehow hurt jennie cuz ngl it fits in with his character. even if it wasn't on purpose maybe accidentally? i dont understand why the author just didn't have that happen instead... like bros assaulted people, raped them, and done tons of heinous shit but he couldn't have just said like one mean thing about jennie or smth??? he's a literal psychopath for crying out loud.
then inseob could've had a legitimate reason to blame him , even if jennie was struggling from mental health issues which caused her to commit suicide. phillip could've been the catalyst to make her do it... but the author just straight up didn't. it could've been a story about peter learning to deal with his grief along with all the other shit going on but ig that would be too compelling of a narrative for the author.
now inseob actually just looks like an idiot... we haven't even really had a realization from him that he did all of this for nothing. i normally don't read any stories with rape in it but i might've been able to power through it if the author at least made inseob a smart character who u could root for, which is what i thought he was at the beginning. now it feels like the author just has him go gaga over phillip even after he's abused, raped, and imprisoned him, just cuz he has a nice looking face.
i'm more mad at myself than anyone else for having such high hopes for this story. its just a "i can fix him" typa story at this point.
I'm sorry but this is making me mad. When I first started it, I thought "Phillip" did something terrible to Jennie, but as it turns out, it was likely just another one of Jennie's lies that Peter had been manipulated into believing. I know Jennie had depression, and wasnt mentally stable, but she used that depression to manipulate Peter. Phillip obviously did not do that to Jenny, and clearly had no clue what was even happening! He quite literally said it was the first time seeing that note. It's so obvious that after being humiliated like that, since it was all just a big ruse, the notes stopped and she tried to contact Phillip to see what was up but he, obviously, didn't know who she was and felt confused on why this random girl keeps wailing that they're dating so she started imagining and making things up because of it. He really came all the way to Korea for revenge over something that didn't even happen. Hopefully the author changes that in the next few chapters and makes it to where Phillip actually did do something to Jennie, because from what it's looking like as of now, Jennie was just spouting lies again because she didn't want to face her reality, and Peter got caught up in this mess because he was easily manipulated due to not having many relationships outside of his family and now he's going through all of this.
