Because sweetheart you guys need to be humbled. This took a lot of time for OP to make, this is over 50+ pages on a JPG file. Not a transparent png. A flat ass JPG file. Meaning, they had to make sure all the coloring layers overlap correctly because this isn’t a fucking coloring book where you can just drop in colors with a bucket tool. So the fact that all the coloring is within the line art means they took the time to individually add all the colors by hand. They’re working with multiply layers, overlays, color dodge layers. And if you’re an artist you’ll understand these terms. The fact that people are hating on fan work the life blood that keeps this community alive is bullshit. They clearly never cared for this story and they don’t give a shit about their community. You’re driving people away because of your toxic behavior. And what’s more is that you never cared about artists in general, so don’t preach about how much you love this author’s art when you don’t even support artists.
“Sweetheart you guys need to be humbled” they just said calm down cause why are you screaming and throwing a fit over someone who didn’t even say they disagree with you?
First these look like official chapters and not fan work. People are mainly critiquing the reformatting decisions, publishing company have a track record of cuts up the panels into pieces post production to spaces out the chapters (going from 6 chapters to 11 to sell more of the same thing) and it totally changes the pacing of the story and harder to read. The mangaka spent time working on the layout, shape, size, direction, borders of the panels and cutting them up disregards all of that work when making them float in 60% white space. Fan work is the like and blood of the community, but this looks like the official work too. If it is, props to them, but publishers have these recoloured works all the time. Also blending modes are not as difficult as you’re making it seem, just wait until you learn to use curve adjustments and gradient map presets cause that makes colouring a breeze. I just don’t think publishing companies need to make black and white manga more palatable for full colour readers. It feels like a lack of appreciation. People aren’t even complaining about the colouring as much as the cutting up and it’s mostly complaints about classification of it being the official chapters, like the scanlation ones (that you talk about being the blood of the community) needed the “real” version. If it really was fan work they could’ve classify it as such. Get a grip.
If this was a fan work, then it's absolutely fine and there's nothing much to say. This was, however, posted as an "official translation"; and if you look through what the uploader posts, they are strictly an uploader. They also say so themselves. While it's hard to track down what website this version was created for, exactly, as far as we can tell this is an official release and should be treated as such.
In turn, this doesn't mean we can throw Niyama-sensei under the bus for having agreed to this; but it's well within our rights to criticize the remake of a perfectly good manga. We're not mad at the uploader or the (presumably official) editors that compiled this but rather that this has to happen at all
Yep, it's 100% the official translation by coolmic (who have a history of this), so it's fine to critique it as it is now. You said all of this so well and I fully agree with you, there's no need to criticize anyone but the publisher in this case, I'm not even sure if Niyama-sensei had a say in this at all since there's no way to tell.
Also side note for whoever: if you ever wanna find info on any author/work, just google the name plus either "bakaupdates" or "mangaupdates" and the mangaupdates site will tell you literally all the info you need.
People are not critiquing, especially not the person who replied to me. If you read their comment and the original one they left and considered that constructive criticism, you are wrong and your morals are severely morphed. There is about 1-2 comments with genuinely good constructive criticism but most took a look and went straight to the comments without a second thought. If you look at the timeline of comments you can clearly see how it goes from: hate comments, to questions if it’s official, to someone saying it’s possibly fan work. And dont try to minimize the effort with curves or gradient maps cause that’s not how curves work either. Gradient maps wouldn’t take away the effort they had to put in as well. You still have to be very clean with these types of things, if anything it shows that this person is an experienced artist going from grayscale to color. To me I’m a bit mixed about the translation. To play devil’s advocate technically speaking if only the visuals changed and the texts all remained the same it is still the original official translation. But I also get where you’re coming from as it can confuse readers, if that’s something the op can change I think they should. But ultimately you should just read your receipts cause its right there.
Damn, yall are such haters!.. and this is why you don’t deserve nice things. Can’t we all just appreciate someone’s fan work? No one is saying the story being formated/colored this way is better than the original. They clearly just love this series enough to color in all the chapters and wanted to share it. Like wtf are you doing for this story and its author? Reading it illegally on mgg?(so literally nothing) Stfu. How is this story going to be so wholesome and then have the most toxic ass people reading it like if you’re already going to fucking read it illegally, appreciate the people who’s feeding you. OP thank you for resharing your take on this story, it was fun seeing everything colored as it must’ve taken forever to do. Keep on the fan work!!
