more spoilers cuz my other comment was way too long
- ever since xin has started hanging out with lau, he has started scratching less and less. so his brother says that it is ok for him to take off his bandages now, and everyone's happy. his brother still thinks he's scratching because of atopy and not because he's sad
- xin & lau decide to go to the town one day, to get candy and such. they escape through the forest and have fun in town, and xin gets to try all sorts of sweets he's never tried before. whenever lau gets lost, xin raises his fist in the air so lau could find him again. xin says this is the best day of his life and he wishes they could be like this forever
- they decide to head back home. on the way they pass by this phone booth in the middle of nowhere. lau says he'll leave the rest of his pocket money (a coin or two) next to the phone because his sister said that it would help someone in need. the reason i mentioned this is because this phone booth has to be important somehow, and it will probably help out lau and xin in the future. because otherwise there is literally no reason for the author to include this.
- when they reach home miu and tan are searching everywhere for them and are freaked out. lau says they just wanted to go to town to get some treats but miu is very upset with him. meanwhile xin is being interrogated by tan, and is quiet but trying to make excuses. tan tells him that xin's disappointed him and xin is in shock and very upset. lau starts trying to help xin by saying it was lau's idea in the first place and not to blame xin. but tan says that xin shouldn't have gone along regardless and that lau is being a bad influence on him.
- miu intervenes by saying that tan is too harsh on xin and lau and they start arguing. xin is so upset and mad at himself for disappointing his brother and making tan and miu argue that he starts scratching his arms again. lau tries to stop him but no matter what he says xin won't stop, so he breaks a vase so miu and tan finally notice him.
- miu says that she is familiar with atopy (Cuz of that girl she helped in the past) and that what xin has is nothing like that and he needs psychological help. miu says she can't forgive tan for what he said about lau, and they leave. miu decides to not come back there anymore.
- back at miu's and lau's home, lau seems empty and rarely talks, just stares out of the window a lot. miu tells him that they don't have to go back there anymore if it makes him upset. lau says that he needs to be there for xin and miu is confused. then lau says "can't you hear it, he's calling me". similar to other guardians and heirs, lau hears the voice of the heir calling him to come here. this shouldn't happen because they're literally not guardian and heir, miu and tan are.
- back at the annex, xin also stares out of the window and doesn't talk much. tan asks him to come read with him like they used to. xin tries to pretend he's alright and says that reading with his brother is still his favorite thing in the world. but tan lifts up xin's sleeve and sees he's still been scratching himself. tan gets mad at himself for creating an environment where xin has to lie and says that he's failed as an older brother.
- just then miu and lau arrive at the annex and xin and lau are happy again.
- miu and tan talk alone. tan breaks down crying and says that everything he has done is for his little brother, but he has still managed to fail as an older brother. he says he felt sorry for xin, who never even got to meet their parents, and wanted to give xin a better life than the one tan has.
- it is pretty much implied through 2 panels that tan JUMPED OFF OF THE HEAD FAMILY'S TOWER just so he could escape. thats why he has to walk with crutches and it was only after that the head family let him and xin stay in the annex.
- miu hugs tan and promises to protect because that's their duty as heir & guardian. she says that he isn't a failure of an older brother and is just doing what he thought was best. she says that as long as the head family has control over them, they would never accept giving xin psychiatric help and that they should escape to the outside world to get help for xin. tan cries some more and accepts.
- meanwhile, the head family's camera picks this all up. idk how miu and tan didn't see these tbh
- the next day miu parks the car outside of the head family's forest so they can escape. miu brings tan along the trail and says that now the time is to escape and after she puts tan in the car, she'll go back and get the kids. tan says he forgot something in the annex, something which is very important. and miu says they could go back and get it but she's not sure if they have enough time.
- just when they reach outside of the forest, the head family servants are waiting for them with guns pointed at them. they say that miu has tried to corrupt the head family heir and for that she must pay the price.
- later xin is trying to find miu and tan and brings an umbrella with him because its raining. he thinks they must've gone outside on the trail since he can't find them anywhere else. when he reaches there, he sees miu and tan dead. xin is in shock but because he's a kid he tries to get them to take his umbrella because they're going to get wet. xin realizes they're not moving and is in shock.
- then lau comes by and asks xin whats under the umbrella (the one that was dropped on the ground). the umbrella obscures miu's and tan's bodies so that lau can't see them. xin says he can't look under the umbrella no matter what. lau says why not, and xin lies and says its a dead deer and that he doesn't want lau to see it. lau tries to look anyways (i think because he remembers that no animal lives in the oleander forest, and that xin must be lying). xin raises his fist in the air and says that lau promised to obey him when he does that, and orders him to come to him and not look under the umbrella. lau obeys but only because he says he promised to.
- later we see tan's tomb (idk if it was miu's as well cuz i can't read chinese and google couldn't translate it). the camera zooms out from the tomb until we see lau choking xin with the umbrella. lau calls him a bad guy and a liar for not telling him miu was under the umbrella. if lau knew he would've been able to still save her. xin says that miu was already dead and he could tell because she didn't pick up the umbrella even when he offered. lau shouts and cries more and continues to choke xin calling him a liar.
- we then get xin narrating from the present saying "thats how the best time of my life ended". now xin continues saying that he can no longer control his body because of his fever and that he's felt this way before, like he's drifting in and out of consciousness.
- we are now in the present timeline, after xin kicked out lau. xin is sweating from his fever and has his shirt pulled off. he turns over on his back and we can see the nearly completed tattoo spanning his entire back.
- wei says for xin to hang in there and soon it will be over.
- cut scene to lian in a tower somewhere in the city. she starts talking about something related to a puzzle and pieces and shit. tbh i rly couldn't understand google translate on this one. but basically while she's talking about puzzle pieces and what they mean, she is assembling a large puzzle made of entirely white pieces. at last she only has one piece left to put in, but before she does that, she pours the ink used for the tattoos onto the puzzle. it then makes the form of xin's tattoo on his back revealing the full tattoo. the design of that tattoo is something another commenter discussed and this comments already long enough so im not gonna elaborate on that. just know its rly cool.
- another thing to note, she has all of the design papers for each individual component of the tattoo on the table folded into paper airplanes. i just thought that was kinda funny.
- we cut to lau sitting alone in the dark somewhere. bro looks like he just survived shell shock ngl like bro got aged 30 years in one night. on a side note though, he stopped wearing his suit and now he actually has a fire ass fit. the situationship break up fits always go hard .
- cut to the scene of the wolf at the beginning of the whole story. the black wolf tries to escape its chains, and now its chains have finally broken. for a moment it looks back into the viewers eyes (like that shit was creepy bro i was uncomfortable ngl). and then it simply walks away into the snow.
- the end of season 2, season 3 will come back on august 13th . i suspect season 3 will be the last season because the way season 2 left off feels like a 3rd act low point ngl.
Goddamn you're a yapper, understandable if it's for Sangyang though. One thing you forgot to also mention:
The older siblings discuss why Lau would be having these auditory hallucinations. The older bro talks about how in the head family's texts, it says the original wolf also experienced those auditory hallucinations and that's how it tracked down the original priest. It somehow talked to the priest and demanded the priest quit calling for it. The priest had no idea what was causing this because he wasn't actually calling the wolf but he liked the wolf anyways so they became friends haha. The older siblings dismiss it as a myth though, but are still confused why Lau would be having these hallucinations if he's not even a guardian.
This raises the question, was the older siblings' deaths predetermined by destiny so that Xin and Lau would become heir and guardian? Or perhaps Lau and Xin are the original wolf and priest reincarnated?
okay so the next few chapters consist of xin and lau being cute and shit. i can't really go back and access the raws rn so i'll try my best to say it from memory
- xin at this point has pretty much fallen in love with lau (you could see the part where he starts laughing in this chapter)
- lau doesn't rly like how xin's following him around, but they continue to hang out more anyways
- xin & lau hang out in the annex's library, and lau asks xin how he doesn't get bored all of the time
- xin says his favorite thing to do is read books with his brother, and lau calls him boring or something along those lines
- xin also talks about asceticism and other teachings by the head family (which are kinda fucked up)
- then they try talking about more kid friendly books ig so lau's brain doesn't get overwhelmed lmao
- xin picks up a book about animals, and says that everyone is similar to an animal
- he compares miu to a panther cuz she has large pretty eyes and tan to a giraffe cuz he's tall asf lmao
- then lau says that he wants to be a wolf cuz they're wild and free but xin basically says how is a wolf any different from a dog or smth along those lines (sry i rly can't remember )
- interestingly enough, xin never says what animal he is like
- later when lau and miu have gone home, xin is talking to his big bro and asks about wolves. i rly couldn't understand what was being said cuz google translate is doo doo, but just know the whole scene was very very very creepy, like probably the creepiest we've ever seen xin and tan be. it definitely had a "how can i make him stay with me forever" kind of vibe. i think at this point what xin feels for lau is less love, and more obsession, though i do think in present time what he feels is love.
- the next day, xin says he thought of a new way to play with lau so lau can always find him. u remember that fist raised in the air gesture xin does? yeah its that. xin literally made that so he could summon lau like a dog, but i don't think lau had realized it entirely yet. its sort of easy to understand why lau has a complex about being treated like xin's dog when xin QUITE LITERALLY treated him like a dog in the past
- lau & xin talk about their deepest secrets with each other, tbh i forgot the reason why but they do. this is when we get lau's backstory.
- basically he was born to a rich family, where his mother was extremely rich and well dressed. hell even the way she was drawn was different, so ig she's super important.
- anyways one day when lau was about 6 years old, his father just straight up slaughters his mom with a sword. the reason why hasn't been established yet, so ig it will be explored in season 3. miu tries to fight back but she can't cuz she's too young and she runs away, leaving lau behind. tbh i still genuinely have no clue why she did this, like she could've just taken lau with her. but again i read it using doo doo google translate.
- lau says he basically lived all alone in his house for about 5 years. its pretty easy to see why lau has abandonment issues
- lau says now that he's said his greatest secret, xin has to say his. xin leads him to his bedroom, where he takes out this story book. he reads the storybook to lau.
- in the story there's a prince who tries to save a girl who is being held captive by the demon king. they talk together and try to escape but just when they reach the edge of the island, the girl turns into dark fog (the same dark fog as the demon king) and is unable to pass through the barrier, meaning that she is the demon king's daughter and that is why she will never be able to escape. the prince tries to escape with her but he passes out due to the fog i think. the girl understands that her escaping is futile, so she sends the prince off in a boat while he's passed out, and hopes that he will never come back. the end.
- xin squirms, blushes and says that his greatest secret is that this story makes his heart pound. lau starts crying and promises to always protect xin.
- this part i think is significant because it basically illustrates xin's worldview and why he is doing all of this. xin is supposed to parallel the girl being held captive, and the demon king is the head family while lau is the prince. xin thinks that by sacrificing himself to the head family and cutting off ties with lau, he can save lau from the head family. this is why imo xin has seemed very self sacrificial so far, because he understands that as long as he is alive, lau will be tied to the head family.
- cut to miu and tan talking. tan is basically asking miu to live in the annex with them and abadon the outside world for 5 years because it is a part of their tradition, and that it is their "duty" as head heir and guardian. miu refuses solely because she doesn't want to leave lau alone again.
- cue miu's flashback. after her dad killed her mom, miu kept walking as if she was possessed until she was in the mountains and passed out. when she wakes up, she is in the house of this old person who helps raise orphans. she helps them for a few years because she is the only one able to work. everyone else is either old, or literally children, so miu takes on all of the heavy duty stuff like chopping wood. still she can't help but feel uncomfortable around the kids for a reason she can't discern. one night she helps a kid who has atopy apply medicine on her back, which is covered in thick skin and rashes. she realizes the reason why she feels uncomfortable around the kids is because she is reminded of lau and how she abandoned him. later she apologizes to the old person and says she has to go back because someone is waiting for her.
- cut back to present time, miu and tan argue a bit more, and tan explains how the head heirs have no true power and are bound by the head family to live as symbols of the priest summoning the dragon.
- this is shown through a flashback/story sorta? of the collateral line heirs talking. after the original priest's death, the other collateral lines worry about them losing their status because they gained it by people seeing them as holy, but the only thing that proved them to be holy (the priest) just vanished into thin air.
- then the original head family appears, symbolized by one person shrouded in black who sorta looks like a kid but interestingly similar to lian? they say that since the priest left behind a baby as an heir, they can just raise the baby to serve as a symbol of the og priest, and that way they won't lose any of their authenticity and will still be able to keep their position of power.
- the heir of the 2nd collateral line (the one that got wiped out centuries ago) disagrees and says that it is impossible to bind someone to that life because they will always want more. the head family mocks them and says that they just have to give the kid everything they want so they never want to leave. and that's how the tradition of basically locking up the head family's heirs came to be.
- cut back to present time, miu and tan talk some more, and tan explains that he doesn't really want to do this but he is bound by his position as the heir to do all of this. miu says she understands but she needs some more time to think.
