I find this on twitter from a reader "So to start: a few days ago I read about K netizens speaking about some of the alleged major themes in the story, saying that one of the characters is a serial rapist who filmed and blackmailed young women without their consent, sent a woman to the psychiatric hospital due to her sexual abuse, and had even committed sexual acts with an animal. But heavy emphasis on extreme acts of gender-based violence against female minors. I was a bit perturbed because such topics are a huge deal in Korea, so l bought the chapters of the novel and read all the way up to the end of the main story...and I think people are misrepresenting what the story is actually about. There is no filming or distribution of female minors (unless I blacked out during reading and missed some very important things). The bottom, Jiwook and the top, Jooyeon used to be friends in HS.
Jiwook was having a sexuality crisis and coped with it by having his friends rape Jooyeon. This destroys Jooyeon's life and even hurts his family. His mother ends up going to the hospital from the stress of it all. (This is where the rumors of a woman being sent to the hospital due to the trauma of being raped come from.)
So 8(?) years later Jooyeon gets back at him by drugging him and taking photos of him in order to blackmail him into being his sex slave. That's as far as illegal filming seems to go from what l've read. It's a very violent story and there are THREE different gang rape scenes. But it in no way appears to be influenced by the Nth Room case or any other major cases of sexual violence in Korea.
Blackmail and coercion are quite common in BL, honestly. But it only happens to men in the genre.
The reason I think the dichotomy is important is because I truly do not think these Korean BL readers would have objected so heavily to the story if they hadn't believed that female violence was heavily featured in it. And this is a mentality (not that I'm saying you agree with this I do not agree with, as rape can happen to anybody. Rallying for something to be censored because it "might" contain violence against women and then turning around to read about the same violence
happening to men is something l can't understand. Anyways, sorry for the long wall of text. I wanted to offer another perspective.
Thank you for your time!"
Now I know I hated on this before but after finding out the reason why the top is the way he is I'm intrigued..... Does anyone have the novel in english
