I'm sure you all took some sort of Language arts or English class, since you ask why characters always seem to make the choices they shouldn't and you start blaming the character for that, based on from what I seen in some comments explaining it,
I'm sure it's Dramatic Irony taking place here, correct me if I'm wrong. The reason we get frustrated why our character falls for it again is because he didn't know that about Kevin while we did know. We were given that information but the character hasn't. He only distrusted the red hair guy. That's just my thoughts so feel free to correct me or converse.
