Im thinking he was gonna say something like “to be honest I caught feelings for you” but realized his personality or how he would react would probably be negative and cut it out.

I think this is where a part of Dan's feeling of gratitude and admiration turn into love for Jeakyung and he start to wish to be by Jeakyung's side, be a bit closer to him but later Dan was overwhelmed with inferiority and stopped there. Instead he wrote that he wishes to work for Jeakyung for many years more.
