That book is wrong you’re not supposed to “help” snakes shed. It’ll come off when it’s ready. If you peel it when it’s not ready you can damage the scales and hurt the snake.

I have 3 snakes lol and yes they do have 2 peens. They're also covered in spikes to help them stay attached to the female. Let’s hope they don’t make them too anatomically accurate lol

Totally agree with you about not helping them by removing the shed forcefully! However, I'm wondering if it's more helping them by maintaining proper humidity and moisture so that they can have an easy shed. It's fun to know that there's another snake owner here I have three as well!

But I've seen some ppl on the internet help their snakes shed, especially if it stayed there for too long(?) Idrk I've never had a snake before, but I think the book was talking about giving the snake a helping hand when they're struggling?

You can help them by holding onto a piece of the skin and let them do the tugging. If you forcefully pull it off then they will get hurt. But acting as an anchor of sorts to help them pull it on their own is fine. So long as you don’t do it excessively

If a snake is having trouble shedding having them sit in a bath of warm water should be enough to help them shed the rest of their stuck shed. It is unnecessary to “help” outside of a soak.
