The author didn’t and I’m referring to people overreacting and crying bc bakugo isn’t canon and there is a cannon straight ship like I don’t know what some of you expect it’s a shounen it’s catered towards young boys so this or any other shounen being queer is not likely to ever happen bc again it’s demographic is straight boys not women. So if you’re looking for a romance or a canon queer ship, there’s other genres for that.
I’m not saying you guys shouldn’t ship but don’t expect your ship to be canon and cry about it when it isn’t. The only ones who I see mostly ship is women so to my girlys there is other genres for you and that are catered for you like BL and shoujo that you can read instead of crying for pixels. If you want action where there is canon queer ships there is Danmei. Shounen is not catered for you and you’re not their main target so they’re ever being cannon queer ships is not likely.
Your overall point is right but shounen is a term that has outgrown its original meaning, to the point where authors don't necessarily "cater" their content to young boys. So many words in English have evolved and Japanese is not an exception lol. They simply keep in the themes of friendship, side romance, and action with a male protagonist but many authors have dropped "the perverted side character" in recent years. Quite a few shounen nowadays have queer characters too despite Japan being quite conservative. Also, Demon Slayer, which is authored by a woman is one of the most popular shounen of all time. Despite this, I find it genuinely surprising that people who consume specifically MHA content expect the ships to be actually canon. Shipping it is one thing but actually believing it is another, especially when Horikoshi didn't even have the balls to make the other straight ships canon.
I agree but usually the queer characters are side, characters or completely irrelevant. It’s very unlikely if they make one of their main characters queer. I do think Japanese manga has improved, but there is still a huge problem with fan service even Demon slayer has it. The fan service in most Shounen are catered towards men and their biggest demographic and consumers are young boys. Realistically, they would lose a lot of money if they ever made one of the main characters queer and it was also one of the reasons why they hardly ever animate shoujo and bl bc one misogyny and the other because they think they will not make money out of it.
You guys never learn like you expect every male friendship to be gay when 99% of the time, one of them always ends up with a woman. It’s a shounen what do you expect? It’s usually catered and its demographic is young boys specifically straight boys. Even if the ship doesn’t make sense or there’s hardly any development it’s a known fact that men can’t write romance for shit.
