Yes you need to subscribe to the story by rating it or putting it on your reading list.

Put the story of your choice in your "I'm reading" category. There's an option that says "subscribe this manga" it should be checked green so you'll get notifications when new chapters update. The function is available for "already read" category too. I dont think it is available for "I want to read" category.
