i'm thinking behind the whole bravado exterior, he grew to be super insecure and is doing this as some fucked up form of validation. like, he's playing with people so he feels like he has some type of power over others when the majority of the things he has now are not because of his own efforts...which is why he's become such a leech （￣へ￣）this is a common thing among cheaters in fiction and IRL
