this comment is very generalizing of psychopaths and sociopaths. first of all, mc is clearly not a traditional psychopath you often seen in mainstream media (also due to some translation inconsistencies, it’s possible he’s a sociopath, not a psychopath), where he is cold blooded or violent or heartless.
he admitted that he has something similar to cognitive empathy, which is something a lot of psychopaths have. he can recognize what people feel and manipulate them (which he would’ve been able to do effectively with xian, if xian couldn’t read minds). also, there are studies that show that psychopaths don’t completely lack empathy. so to an extent, he can still care for his friends.
either way, the story is obviously not focused on how mc is a psychopath, and even then, his sadism is highlighted more than his psychopathy. even xian described mc’s “psychopathy” as more a personality disorder.
as for the death of the cat thing, that is literally the no. 1 way to tell if someone is a psychopath, in the truest sense. killing/harming animals, is part of the macdonald triad of sociopathy.
I think you watch too much psychopath fiction drama. Yes the portrayal isnt the most accurate but yours arent accurate either. A psychopath wouldn't bond with friend ? Actually no they can bond with their friend heck They could literally be best friend as long as it benefit them. And there been well documented experiments and journals stating some (although very small amount of) psychopath CAN feel remorse or regret. Psychopath like all mental condition isnt set to only one condition. Its varying based on the people.
