Because in the novel it’s says he was born, and was likely not going to make it because he needed a lot of magical power that no one had at the moment. There’s the twins of Douglas (lion) and then the third child Sui, was born. He was very weak as he needed more magical power and chika and his fathers didn’t have enough at the time. It was Gallis (the dragon who had kidnapped chika in the first place) that saved Sui by giving half his life to Sui, out of repentance. Sui was saved and grew up to adulthood. Chika, Douglas, and Gail happily go on to have 5 more kids after that. Having a total of 8 children.
Wait hold up. Now that you mention it there is now a better translation. I was reading this back in 2022(?) and from that fan translation (and some google translated pages) iis2g that there was a child that died. This completely chnges evertyhing.
