Honestly, things would have been much better for Esther if Lavienne was simply the saintess. Sure, she wouldn't have hooked up with Noah, but she wouldn't have had multiple lifetimes of suffering from Lavienne either. I don't know if one happy life makes up for 17 hellish ones.
Lavienne is a villainess, yes, but it isn't entirely her fault either. It's probably her father's and pretty much everyone else's fault who put so many expectations on her because she was supposed to become the saintess. It's ironic that he's the one at fault for her not being one simply because he couldn't keep it in his pants.
Her rage at Esther is also kinda understandable, even if not justifiable: Esther basically stole her purpose in life. She was born to be the saintess, everyone assured her she would become one, even the previous saintess, and then suddenly she wasn't one. She might have even found out at some point in previous lives that Esther was her half-sister, which would twist the knife even more.
