Yeah, that's like the main plot of 19 days, being memories. That's why the christmas specials are set in the future (I think the first future christmas special was when He Tian comes back.) And, if you go back to the first chapters, it literally says Jian Yi goes missing the second day they start highschool and comes back after years. (Yes, the main memories are from middle school.)
In chapter 43 (here in mangago) Jian Yi actually came back from being missing. So all the chapters where you see them wearing school uniform are middle school memories.
A personally guide myself if the chapters are set in the past or the present by Mo's piercings, lol.
