I guess author wanted to show that dragon is going to move on after reliving his past. And his partner is there for him from now on. So, he doesn't need to be scared or feel lonely anymore.
Well he could do that while he's an adult but not complaining honestly, I like baby version sooo much and couldn't get enough of him.
Like I was sad we only saw him for a couple of chapters.
