The plot is driven by random bullshit. No character has proper motivation, they all have the object permanence of a toddler. Idk man, I wish authors would realize that even when you're writing a kind, selfless, but tortured character, you need to give them some goal, or at least make their lack of goals important to the story. This kind of character would find a leak in the roof, and instead of fixing it, they'd wipe away the leak everyday, while pitifully sighing about how they probably deserve this.
