Thank you for posting this comment, I did a deep dive on it. I think that it's great that you're willing to accommodate to the new space online :)) Don't feel discouraged and if you don't wanna read this whole message just read the one marked advice.
There are many reasons to why ppl might not like seeing comments demanding smut or vulgarity any longer. The biggest reason is prolly the consistent fetishization of queer men in yaois, for eons ppl hv exploited queer media to only center around sex and horniness bc they could not imagine queer ppl existing in normalcy (outside of deviancy) thus when authors try to focus stories more on the plot or romantic aspects of the story, many fans wanna honor that by respecting their choices and not demanding shut bc queer ppl can exist outside of that as well. The second reason is that many ppl have started realizing that smut/sex is not the end of everything, its often times just a part of daily life, other ppl are uncomfortable with seeing smut constantly shoved into every aspect of the story (to solve conflict, when someone is grieving, etc.). The third reason (I would presume) is that there are already multiple bls with smut or smut within the first couple chapters, ppl hv greater standards nowadays where they expect good plot and character development outside of that. For example, stories like Our Sunny Days or the Guildmate Next Door would have been nowhere near as popular back in 2022 but now many hv grown to see that they deserve standards. The last reason i can propose may be that sometimes the authors get pressurized into adding smut into the story even if they're uncomfortable with adding it or they want to add it later to favor plot development (often the case) so fans become upset when other fans keep on adding to the masses and pressure. Consider that, sometimes the author may be foregoing smut for now for good reason and it's better to wait it out to see what that is.
On to the topic of vulgarity, its okay to ask for SEX in a respectful or non-fetishizing manner but (and I say this to everyone I came across) something that you wouldn't say out loud to your frnds, don't say it here either. I have been traumatized many times from people just spit balling weird fantasies on a random manhwa and sometimes it's just plain uncomfortable. These are fictional characters while it's okay to want them to be freaky, but its uncomfortable to be begging for them to have sex, it'll happen when it does or it won't and that's okay bc that's the authors design. Nowadays western media or mlm is actively competing with international media, mostly because of this reason, there is an over abundance of vulgarity on screen, I'm not a prude and I like sex as much as the next guy but to constantly have the actors go fwop fwop on screen is just not fun. Again, queer love has sexual intimacy so I do think it's an important addition but constantly asking for the characters to be having sex is uncomfortable for many.
Advice: I'm so happy you're asking this question to understand the nuances of online participation and how to make sure that most ppl feel comfortable. Now that the online space is more respectful of ppl who may not be as comfortable with these topics, I would say it's the perfect time to clean up all of our acts. For example, i didn't know how uncomfortable people were with spoilers but when I figured it out I implemented adding the spoiler tag to any comments where there may be even a slight spoiler. In this case, I would suggest just one thing, wait for the story to actually progress and the characters to develop before you mention sex in the comments. Unless the story is tagged shounen ai oftentimes the story will have smut, esp in manhwa. If the story is tagged shounen ai, there is no point commenting desires for sexual content, it just starts fights. Don't be hypersexual or 'horny' in the comments, esp when it comes to your own kinks and fantasies, its weird and if you wouldn't say it to your friends in person, you shouldn't be saying it on here either. Remember: there are actual minors in the comments as in under 15, so talking about a p*ss kink, squirting, etc is just weird and kinda gross. If you rlly wanna post smth ab tht go on reddit maybe. Lastly, ask yourself honestly, is this weird to be posting this comment, practice shame (many ppl forget this online). You can say wow his dik is big but writing an essay on how u want the bottom to ride is just...
I like your way of explaining things. Thank you so much for letting me understand the reason for this changes recently!!
I will be more cautious and stop saying horny things so much (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
To be honest, you are really built just to answer this question because of your extensive but clear and reasonable perspective. I just got shocked being attacked from this recently ╥﹏╥ because I didnt know it was a big deal recently.
I do apologize and understand other people's perspective and morality clearly now (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
O hell yea unite the queers, i got u. I'm so happy that the face of bl is changing, queer ppl deserve happiness outside of sex. We are so much more than our sexual habits. Seeing queer ppl get stories outside of one-stands and purely sexual relationships, makes me so happy I could scream. That's one of the reasons why I also tend to hate rape/SA plots in stories (between the main characters or otherwise), its just so awful to think that so many authors or people seem to believe that raping people is the only way we achieve love or, in the case of child SA (which seems to be included in every other story nowadays), that being SA'd as a child increases your chances of being queer. Nether of which are true btw. Just bc you're queer doesnt mean u will commit sexual crimes to get who you want. Also, sexual abuse can happen to children all across the board and most of them aren't gay as adults (I believe the stat for child SA is 1/5 but I could be wrong)
I love your energy!! It's so clear that you want to improve and are willing to learn! Don't let being attacked discourage you, you are doing your best by trying to understand where they may be coming from. I applaud you! Thanks for the compliments, I just feel so strongly about this topic and am glad when ppl are actually willing to learn not only bc I'm queer myself and believe that we exist outside of being ppl's fetishes but also bc my sister also used to read on here when she was 17 and while I don't have a problem with her reading age appropriate queer content, I do take issue with her coming across horny or weird comments, so I'm glad that the online sphere is gradually changing.
I want to know so I can avoid getting bashers because of what I comment.
To explain my side: I just came back in reading BL stories in 2024 after the mangago comment section went down during 2022 I guess??
Anyways, back in the past, when most people demand smut or get freaky in comment section, people will just laugh it out or say you are horny.
But I guess it is different now, since people already leans more to morality and I guess many dont like seeing vulgar comments
╥﹏╥
So I want to know if there are other things I should carefully look before commenting? Like moralities or social ethics that should be observe at the present??
