I think you guys are a bit mean to Takeo about the crush he had on Ao. Like, it was on and over pretty fast all things considered... but even if it wasn't, he's already over it by the time this manga takes place (since it supposedly takes place after the events of Cupid Rakurai). So, yeah, of course hearing that he likes someone else from Wako, when he likes Wako now, is gonna be a bummer. Like, you guys know we can like multiple people throughout our lifetime right? In high-school it's even more crazy in that aspect too.
I think it's pretty clear to us as readers that the one he liked before was Ao, but Wako doesn't really have that knowledge. He just thinks it's Shingo because he's the only one that Takeo isn't arguing with-- so Wako assumes things with what he has. And, for the purposes of this story? That doesn't really matter. It's not a matter of whether or not Takeo liked Shingo (or Ao) once, it's that Takeo *doesn't like them anymore*.
While I don't think Wako had to grovel like that, like he'd done something bad, I also don't really think Takeo had to. I mean, what's the problem with coming to like Wako after trying to? They've been best friends and family (kinda) since forever, so I think it's fair for him to want to actually *do* something to see Wako in a different light rather than just wait passively. I think he really did need to see those different sides of Wako to realize that "he was a guy too" (like, in dating prospects and stuff), in a way. I actually really that part of this story, you know? How Takeo put in that effort. It was very human. Love doesn't always have to be about the magic of fate or first loves, etc.
I would have loved some more of Takeo's POV too, but I really do think I can see his love blossom nicely already. They were so cute! And they're still young too, so he has a lot of time for his feelings to catch up with Wako's~~ let's not be hasty guys!
