SANGYANG:THE WANDERER. PLEASE THE PLOTS SO GOOD IM LITERALLY BEGGING I WAS SO DESPERATE I STARTED READING THE RAWS LEGALLY. Ahem. Anyways the plots literally so goated, it’s a great mix of mystery and psychological with a noir feel to it. Lowkey I feel like it would be either a seinen or shounen if it had an anime cuz it def has that vibe. Please give it a shot (▰˘◡˘▰)
Little mushroom...
RAINBOW FUCKING CITY (rainbow city) and let me explain why, let me explain the basis of the plot real quick
so basically,
It’s post apocalyptic setting in which a company had decided to release a virus to sell vaccines Turing everybody into a zombie. The virus started to mutate this rendering the vaccine useless and the world was declared for a state of emergency. As nations fell they banded together in over to stop the spread of the vaccine, creating what is the main setting of the story “rainbow city” in Seoul Korea which was a city mainly controlled by the government split into seven sections to measure the zombie or “Adam” rate, with green being the safest and red being the most dangerous as well as military bases to to train and raise soldiers and hiring researchers in order to develop newer vaccines, but the problem was that the virus kept mutating and have already mutated 7 times rendering all the vaccines useless and the story goes from there. The only place unaffected by the virus was JeJu Island which is where the protagonist, Dr.SeokHwa, came from. A 34 year old poker faced genius researcher with a weak body that isn’t strong enough to even run, and had a strong obsession with rocks (reason will be revealed later) who once had been to rainbow city with his mentor but had returned back to JeJu Island to live a peaceful life was now needed to research the new variant. So the city sent soldier “Major Kwak SuHwan” to get him off the Island as well as the job of being the doctor’s personal bodyguard because Major Kwak Suhwan, being the strongest man in Rainbow city, barged into the red zone late at night without warning and caused a shit ton of chaos, massacring Adams just to fuel his alcohol addiction and was now given 2 options. 1. Get Dr.Seok off JeJu island and be his guard or 2. Go to the guardhouse which was basically a detention center for soldiers. Major Kwak, having the most fuckboy personality and was still reluctant to do it, manages to convince Dr.Seok to go back. However, he soon figures out the reason. Dr.Seok’s old mentor had been murdered in the base. With that, Dr.Seok starts to research the death of his mentor and starts to find things in Rainbow City that is not what it seems.
anyways thats the premise of the plot, but there is so much more to it than your average post apocalyptic. ofc we got the sus cult and the corrupt government, but the way they are noth portrayed in the plot and their actions, the mystery behind the shit theyve been up too connects so well with the plot not to mention the foreshadowing to the plot twists are INSANE. like there will be so many things that happen at the beginning that is sus but will be reveals why its sus wayyyyy later to other plot points and if you really think about it everything starts to make sense. Not just the ml and mc, let me tell you the side characters and their backgrounds is ACTUALLY EXTREMELY significant in chapter way later, and though the side characters dont have as much screen time as the main characters, their situation and their personalities all serve towards the final plot point. the main villain is impossible to detect who it is until you actually reach the parts where it reveals his true intentions and even then it uses the villains actions and his dialogue to truly illustrate why he's the villain. everything the characters do is extremely significant down to the last detail.
the AI system called "mother"
the mc taking notes in morse code
the mc's mentor dying
the adam virus mutation
the so called "mutants"
the death of the mc's mother
the importance of the mc and ml's parents
the importance of deaths in the story
even the significance of bible terms.
the character's backstory is important to understand their true character in order to understand their actions in order to understand the plot as a whole. Its like an ecosystem where literally everything serves as a purpose towards another. even at the beginning where the mc used the ml's socks to put stones in instead of wearing them, that has a deeper part to it as well. and at the very very beginning where it introduced the mc who was on jeju island, it made it clear that he "went back to jeju isand" and that single statement is important MUCH LATER ON to understand the plot even deeper. not to mention it does an amazing job at showing and not telling, iff you don't understand then you miss a whole lot of detail and foreshadow, I mean it when I said its truly the best thing ive ever read. I mean it, its so hard to explain to people who hasnt read the whole thing why I love it cause the plot is a whole web that if you read only a little bit you won't see the true beauty of it. Manhwa is amazing but the novel is a gift from god.
Yoake no Uta / The Lullaby of the Dawn
I only hesitated because it's still ongoing, but what we have is already miles ahead of other BL in regards to plot. It is so fucking good. And the art is incredible.
