Well that's a heavy accusation. If you're talking about the background where it looks like a photo and they just edit it to make it use in the manhwa, that's an old trick artists use. What exactly are you referring to as AI? I'm looking forward to your basis/proof.

i didnt even realise but yeah look at the details of the background in this latest ep and you'll see a lot of it doesnt make sense or you cant clearly understand all the lines/objects. the photo trick still allows you to understand the details of the image.

I was wondering that but i believe it’s just filters being heavily used that looks awfully like AI. It would be AI if the structure of the buildings looked wonky, aspects of the building (windows, doors, details) were merging together or undistinguished, or the perspective of the buildings don’t look natural or cut off weird. But that’s just my guess

Be careful with the accusations. What exact panels and backgrounds do not look okay with everyone? Someone might be able to explain the angles or objects that don't look correct to you.

Heavily filtered real backgrounds have been a thing ever since, it can be a stylistic choice or because they're out of time. A lot of times, detailed backgrounds are harder to create than the main characters. Also, it's a basic filter you can find even in the most basic phones.

Hmm yea I can see it but there still a good majority of the backgrounds are a realistic photo with a filter . Tho I won’t deny the background for the auto shop does look like AI with the amount of wonkiness

still, there was no need for AI at all. if you read back and really look alot of them have AI

Yea.. I guess it kinda hard for me to accept that this artist uses AI like this or well AI at all considering they’re an artist and all :(

Sorry for the late reply, I went to sleep after that comment, but;

First of all, I don't think Old Xian *always* uses AI/AI filters for *every* background, but it's become very noticeable and more and more common.
For everyone saying it, could be a photo bg with a filter (bc that's common in manhwas), yes, I think so too; but it's definetely an AI filter nowadays, or a filter photo that afterwards goes through AI enhancement and/or editing. AI has a very distinct "muddy" look that is very hard to just scrub off – I could go into what exactly it is that gives it away as AI but this is a mangago comment section, so idk if it's really the best place for it. If anyone *really* wants to know, my DMs are open (mangago's "send mail").

The exact process I think happens is either A) Old Xian gives the AI a blocked out, simple background she has drawn to run off of, or B) gives it a photo and keeps editing it through the AI. There are some backgrounds where you can kinda see the mesh of a photo with 3d rendered objects (which is also something usual for manhwas to use), and I think Old Xian is trying to mesh everything into a uniform look/style. In some panels, however, you can notice it affect some of the characters as well.

This isn't really an accusation I like making, mind you, since I love 19 Days so very dearly and I believe everyone here is aware of how great an artist Old Xian is. Even when looking back through chapters to look for AI, you can see the fair share she also hand draws. But, whether we want to admit it or not, AI can help with lessening the strain of making a comic – especially one as big as this where you can see the standard for quality has been rising, and I think that's what got her. AI is still not an ethical practice tho, and I don't think it's necessary; I definitely think Old Xian could go for simpler backgrounds or just normal filters over photos, rather than resorting to AI... buut I'm not the one making the calls here, so I just hope that with time she sees this isn't necessary.

For perspective being off, it'd have to be a 100 ai generation of a complete scene. For just a wall, for example, you can get away with it pretty easily. Everything else you mentioned does indeed happen

I am well aware detailed BGs are harder to create, especially when Old Xian has been delivering such high quality art for the characters themselves; buut there is a difference between an object that looks blurred because of a normal filter and objects that become deconstructed, are cut off, merge into walls/nearby objects, and lines that grow or thin with no purpose.

It could be "a basic filter found in basic phones" but, regardless, it'd be an AI filter.
