I don’t think you’re using arrogance correctly. Arrogance is for people who claim to have something or be something, but can’t back it up. Basically people who overestimate themselves. The ML is what he says he is and more. The fact that he’s an emperor as powerful as he is in all shape and form gives him every right to be the way he is. Now if you find that annoying, that’s just a matter of taste. Can’t say anything against that.

I never called him humble. I said he wasn’t arrogant. By definition, arrogance is “having an exaggerated sense of one’s own importance or abilities.” This does not define who the ML is. He’s an emperor who has quite literally everything he needs and whose power extend beyond the realm of what’s “normal.”
And no, I wouldn’t call a woman like him cold either. I’d find her badass and I’d be looking forward to what she has in store.

i get what you're saying; he's just got this air about him?? like i can't put my finger on it because he bounces around so much but he does have some arrogant moments, for sure. there's just something annoying about how he projects himself at times.....
I’m arguing against the word because you’re not using the terminology correctly. Might be because I’m a writer myself so I always get bugged out when certain words are used incorrectly. I get what you’re saying, but it’s still not what he is. Literally any other synonym of the word is what best describes him. All I was saying is that by definition, arrogance cannot be used to describe a man who doesn’t overestimate himself because he quite literally everything he claims to be is and has everything to offer. Basically, he can back it up.
Anyway, I don’t see the point on continuing this further. While I don’t share your sentiments on there ML, I really just wanted to negate the adjective because I see people use it left and right everytime for every type of character, so it becomes tedious. Have a nice weekend.

The reason OG poster said arrogant is probably because his actions can come off as being arrogant due to his confidence, being emotionally detached, sometimes manipulative/calculating behavior, and his sense of superiority. His arrogance would show in the way he controls situations and the people around them; he has a self-assured demeanor and appears unbothered by the emotional impact of his actions in the way he handles conflict and intimacy. The best way to describe his character would probably be: ambitious (sometimes making him appear self-centered), charismatic but reserved, and calculating. So while I wouldn't fully say he is arrogant, his actions could come across as being so.

Yeah it’s really just the word “arrogant” that ticked me off. I think I’ve been seeing that continuously used as the general term to describe various aspects of a person and I tend to just be perplexed when my understanding of a specific word doesn’t apply with what I’m seeing, so I brought it up. The whole thing just snowballed from there. Anyway, I should’ve just offered a different term and I’m sure the thread wouldn’t have been this long-winded.
@kittykat: Personally though, I wouldn’t call him cocky either. Doesn’t fit. I do think you feel that way because he’s very confident/aware of his own power, so his attitude is more on the condescending side of things. That’s a tone that typically irritates me.
Tbh I really dont like the ML like imo hes arrogant and annoying, but imma keep reading for the revenge plot :)
