In my line of work, I've had old codgers and fuddy duddies do legit charity work by donating large sums of money to orphanages and institutions that do accounted work for the poor but god forbid if one comes near them, if it wasn't illegal to strike a person; they'd beat them black and blue.
I sorta kinda get it and don't. It's both paradoxical and relatable. They like doing humanitarian work but not with the human involved.
