All the concubines almost died because they crossed the line and was feeding the emperor drugs and alcohol. This made him crazier! The empress also loved him but he’s gay so he couldn’t love her the same way. They’ve been engaged since they were kids so it’s a political marriage at best. She was being pressured by her brother to have a baby. He terrified her more than the emperor! When it didn’t happen, he plotted to killed the mc and the emperor. Not without framing the emperor first.
