It’s just the fact that I feel like they spent the entire manga building up one relationship as if that’s what’s going to be end game. Just to randomly for the last chapter just be like “yeah so we broke up and she’s marrying someone else, and oh yeah I’m gay and dating my best friend”. I just wish like we saw like how it developed if they were going to go that route, I just feel's unsatisfying idk.
i never really regard the last chapter as the full ending, but rather an epilogue, a showcase in which what decisions and outcome the characters made after finding their true identities and how it affected their decisions. futaba and taichi did like each other a lot, but it was clear that their paths were going in different directions and they were both unconfident in deciding what was best for them since they wanted to constantly consider how the other felt, thats why their relationship dragged onto a long distance before breaking up. taichi admitted nothing bad had happened, they were just growing it different directions.
taichi and futaba from the start of the story were initially timid and unconfident characters who could never really decide for themselves without having have others affect decisions. the story clearly builds up where the two characters and where they were going to go, and in my opinion, the break up was not abrupt at all.
the common misconception is that this story isnt so much of a romance but a coming of age slice of life where the main idea revolves around perspectives and such; mamis view on hetero relationships, itachi question into what her queer feelings are, toumas queer identity affecting his relationship and ect. all relate their perspectives at their ultimate decisions in their life! all of these build up their last ch
im not trying to argue so sorry if this seemed aggressive just more insight on some nuances
i think a lot of people misunderstood this story because i thought the end was really touching and wrapped it up very well, but to each their own :)
