Honestly I'm confused abt this too. Atil calls the emperor "this guy I just met" when his dad is dying– so maybe the emperor was a half-brother, or a cousin (both would be "uncles" to Atil) of some sort? So he wouldn't be part of "the main family" and Atil wouldn't have met him until that point.

The current emperor is their ascendant-hes a dragon that stayed hidden in the dessert. The former emperor personally went to the dessert and sought the dragon and begged him to take over the throne and take care of his son. My guess is during this time, the emperor is already badly sick and wanted someone to temporarily take over the throne and protect the prince

Soo basically the previous emperor had 6 siblings and all of them died.
So who is this current emperor currently occupying the throne if all of the siblings of the previous emperor are all dead? The current emperor calls the crown prince "nephew" so I was under the impression the current emperor is the sibling of the previous emperor
