imo its just more politically favorable for everyone involved. the head of the attack is obviously franz so his family would like to wash their hands off it as best they can. if the royal family decide to uproot the entire count family (officially because of one person) that would cause too much waves in noble society.
plus this way they have a significant blackmail over the burkenlais who would rather be under control of others while still keeping their title rather than to have nothing or worse executed. hence why judith could make davy (a bastard with a commoner mother) their heir. if you think about it they couldve just easily made another cousin as heir over an illegitimate child. luca's position as princess vanessa's grandson made his adoption more favorable in the eyes of nobles, but the same cant be said about davy.
if they punish the burkenlais severely for revenge sake, well franz is alrd dead anyway and judith isnt the type to dwell on narrow sighted vengence. besides isabella SAVED her life, she quite literally jumped in front of a gun for her. judith would rather repay that debt instead.
Yes yes and also with burkenlais basically on wits end to keep their reputation in society technically with isabella as the new countess she will have strong relations with judith so that makes it favorable for both parties count burkenlais will have a connection to judith and the duke of winterwald in the end its really not a bad decision for the family to choose.
