I think the guy she mentioned is the brother and now that ml is slowly falling in love, he is beginning to resemble his brother. However, she doesn’t like it cause the brother died and she doesn’t want him to die like him maybe? Like, the reason she doesn’t want fl and ml to be in love is because she’s afraid ml will grow weak and die like his brother maybe?
Yeah,it was ml's older brother that her mother is referring to. The older brother was the previous duke and the father of the two children. The mother was afraid that ml will fall in love with Fl because FL was sent by the emperor. The emperor is hostile with the ml's family and their territory. The emperor was the reason of Hugh's trauma and the reason he couldn't talk. The emperor was also the one behind the children's parent's death( or maybe, it's obvious). So it's understandable why the mother was hesitant to accept FL easily,but FL proves she's worthy to be in ml's side.
Is the childrens mother dead, doesn't it say in an earlier chapter shes away cause she broke down?

So...are you telling me ML ain't the kid of that guy who came with the mother? I sense a strong dislike from the Mom that can't be explained yet. Could be a lot of things. Like ML being the son of that dude she mentioned. Could be the guy is dead. Sorry...was thinking out loud and had to write that down
