I can kinda understand the point of view from Emi's mom. We as readers know that Toshio is like a baby bird and harmless, but from her view, he is a strange male teenager who hangs around a little girl. It kinda hurts to see her being on guard, but she's at least civil about it. I still hope she gets to know him better later.
