No? I haven't seen anyone ever do it like that. It is customary to propose, which is where the engagement ring comes from. Although it isn't common to propose twice, it still is a thing and the first proposal comes from the promise to marry. The period between the time from the proposal to the wedding is when the couple is considered engaged, to be married.
however "now that you're engaged, has he asked you to marry him yet?" like um??? ARENT ENGAGEMENTS WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU ASK SOMEONE TO MARRY YOU?? bruh I'm so confused. I didn't like the pacing of this story at all. I've seen worse but still... I'd rate this 5.5 outta 10 if I'm being generous.
