It was great

This is one I've been meaning to finish. It was something...I'm just a bit disappointed? The premise was intriguing, the drama was crazy, the relationships were all very engaging. I like how connected characters were. The different perspectives and motives. This is one you end up binging. The last volume though felt so rushed. Though, I could tell the author really wanted to leave on a good ending.

The author kept putting multiple characters through horrific traumatic events, ones they seemed to emphasize being awful. Yet characters would let things go, forget or react the same before the trauma. Heck one character gets stabbed but everyone is like "save him" "save yourself" "you stabbed him but I saved him so be mad at me"... Yeah your brother was gang raped, used as an object, and destroyed but he's still smiling and I was raped in the past too so feel sorry for me cause my man is here to comfort me now unlike then. It's all ok.... Then we jump to the future and everyones happy?

We dont even get any resolution on how the caste commitee reacted to azusa burning the king card. Or how anyone else reacted to the caste game being abandoned. It's all shoved together and finished withing 2 chaps.

Honestly without the BL, and rape I could've seen this as some shounen trope manga where the friendship surpasses everything in the end. It felt like they wanted to make a message about societal appearance, roles, artificial casting, self handicapping, undeserved privlidge, hierarchy etc.. but couldn't stay on track or only had one goal.

This doesn't even cover azusa's or karino's character development. He goes from being an ahole to somewhat nice because he's being raped and atsumu shows him unconditional kindness. They do have their moments though. But like c'mon azusa has shown visceral hatred for Karino at points. There needs to be more than he decided to stay home for a few days and now karino saves him, gets beat up and all is good cause how strong and thoughtful of him to stand up for azusa finally.

It just was kinda flat towards the end. It's still great as a manga. The ending just left me wanting more and possibly a different development. All the volumes are great except the last. The only thing I like about it, is it finishes the story and at least they're happy. Glad to be done with this one finally.
