Okay…the chapter was a little confusing but I think the snake is saying that he didn’t have anything to do with the instigating of the pervious king’s death, only covering it up and trying to see if the wolf would pick up on it. When he saw that he didn’t, he took “matters” into his own hands and got rid of the potential risks to the fl. But he’s pretty insane and wants her to mourn his death because he knows he’s going to die once the wolf finds him! I think using his ability a lot probably caused his mental decline. He does seem to care enough to spare his brother from a cruel fate after all this is done and the family being most likely branded as traitors so won’t ever be acknowledged in favor again.
