I think it’s valid for people to share their discomfort when this is a common occurrence with writers/artists obsession with constantly putting rape and abuse in their stories to the point where people think ts is normal for gay relationships.. it’s weird and no amount of TWS and tags will excuse that
Not that I'm invalidating them.. but they can read right? There's a lot of nice BL stories out there without angst, rape, or abuse so why proceed reading ahead when its already tagged and with TW? its not like these stories are the only options right? I don't romanticize nor condone rape or abuse but these are fiction stories and we as readers should know what's fiction and what's reality.. we know ourselves better than others so if they know they can't take stories with heavy theme they have all the freedom to skip it, its not the author's job to adjust for them
It’s valid to a certain point. Yes, there’s many stories with SA like this that sometimes don’t even make sense, sometimes it’s just is and in the NARRATIVE of the story it’s like it’s not even a big deal. Tbh I believe anyone can write and produce whatever they want, ofc the more they share their work it is bound to get criticised. But if someone does not like to read these stories, that have warnings and are tagged, then don’t read. Is that simple. Anyone can write whatever they want more so in the realm of fiction. And just so you know, just because many people write romance stories with lots of toxic stuff does not mean people think it’s normal. No sane person thinks gay people have abusive relationship because that is the norm for them. No SANE person. You can think that is uncomfortable ofc, you can say it, but it’s tiring to see people shit on authors or artists. Like don’t read it then, it’s that simple.
I halfway agree with you I definitely think sending threats and shitting on authors is a shitty thing to do and that there are other stories to read BUT I still think we should call things out when they get excessive because some of these plots that have these constant rape scenes just seem kind of fetishy to me personally and what’s making it even worse for me is that is mostly women writing these which makes is even more fetishy and glossing over it just makes it seem like people in general are excusing it just because a character is hot or something , it just all reminds me of those booktok weirdos who think labeling rape, incest, and abuse as dark romance is okay when it’s not
Just as people can enjoy horror movies or violent games without condoning violence in real life, fans of stories with taboo themes can appreciate these stories purely as fictional experiences. For many, these kinds of stories create a safe way to explore intense emotions or dynamics that would be unacceptable in reality.
I have to agree that there’s many stories with rape and abuse that are done without any critical context, or the fact that it happens in the story has no repercussions on the characters, and it’s like it’s used for shock, or to push sex scenes to happen. That thing annoys me but some people don’t care.
I think what matters is that people understand the difference between fantasy and reality. I honestly think most authors and readers don’t romanticize real-life harm—they’re simply using fiction as a way to safely explore different scenarios. I agree with you that it’s important to approach these themes thoughtfully, but just because something is explored in fiction doesn’t mean it’s a reflection of someone’s real-life beliefs or values. And that includes people who have fetishes or fantasies like this.
Honestly I think it’s unfair to brand women (or anyone) as fetishizers of abuse simply because they engage with this type of content. There, I said it, sue me. Maybe because I don’t frequent the world of porn that much but I swear I never see so much of an argument with porn when it has the same stuff (fantasies of abuse, incest, age gap fantasies) but done with real life people as actors (I want to believe)
I wholeheartedly agree now as long as people know how to differentiate between real life and fantasy when it comes to this topic even though we got those select few who definitely need to be put on a list( ̄∇ ̄") and with the porn thing I definitely think people should call out the weird stuff in it as well because the amount of dudes I’ve talked to that says some rapey shit about pornstars or that step-siblings or teens is quite literally the most searched thing on porn websites is quite literally insane, but I’m so glad you responded in a mature way instead of getting heated like some people in the comments, thank you for that ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~
