Nah he clearly said authorities were blackmailing him with her safety obviously he'd ignore her so everyone would think he doesn't care about her and harming her will not get them any benefit and he succeeded in his mission but he didn't imagine his wife would sacrifice herself for her as he thought he treats her too low for her to put herself in danger for him
