In very salty conditions, like in salt-rich deep-sea areas, this process can lead to mummification of soft tissues. cold, salty water does help reduce the rate of breakdown.

So true. One of my best friend's friends, drowned in the sea. After few hours he was found,but his had already started decomposing and his eyes were gouging (one was out of the socket), his head was split open and he was very blue/purple. His casket was sealed. I gave it a rest thinking this is a manga. ╮(￣▽￣")╭
