Yes, well and truly. Doesn't matter that they're still circling each others meaning. All the starting premises were all wrong and they know and still can't let go of them - dragging all the wrongs and scars along the way.

The times were shitty from the ground up, that's why no one took a look at Heiner and went "Officer, this guy right here is mentally unstable" no they went "I don't care, who's mentally stable anyway in this bloody revolution and aside from his wife he's a great leader (he can't do anything else, anyway)"

Her struggle to break free drags him along like a bear trap clamped around her leg; he'll have to acknowledge sooner or later that he has to reconcile all the pedestals he put her on, idolizing either her grace or her villany, never able to look at the woman who's just a woman.

And she's (awkwardly! clumsily!) trying to rebuild herself while looking at ALL of her failures and mistakes and moral failings.

If she's not his saint, she can't absolve him of his sins. If she can't absolve him of his sins, she gotta take responsibility for them because HE CANNOT BEAR TO LOOK AT his past; and he doesn't want to share it, just have her understand and see (which houdini-trick is this?)
