"Conclusive evidence" my ass, if you can't prove the substances weren't planted, all you have evidence of is something not being right, not of Maythan's guilt. But of course I'm sure they'd be pressured by a certain royal to reach that conclusion.
Also let's not victim blame here. You can say Maythan was warned all you want but he doesn't exactly have the most trusting relationship with Kael, who has more or less always wanted something from him that he's not prepared to give and hurt his sister, and Kael also did not give him the details of WHY he should avoid Ian. Maythan doesn't have a trusting relationship with people in general either because he's always been bullied, and knows what it's like to have people stay away from him because they were warned about him. And suddenly there's this kid who is super affectionate AND doesn't try to get into his pants? You can call Maythan stupid all you want but I hope you don't think this about real victims. That's what happens when someone meets needs you didn't realise you had, you become blind to their red flags. And I'm not just talking about romance.
Let's keep in mind that Maythan is used to being hated, so even with the suspicious incidents happening to him, why would his suspicion fall on the kid who treats him well first? It could just as well have been people hating that he's now hanging out with yet another prince, or someone else could have put rocks in the sandwiches, targeting Ian rather than himself.
You're entitled to your anger at Maythan but let's always remember that the person most deserving of it is the perpetrator.
