I think it's that her father is so powerful and dangerous that he would have gone after her husband and children if she didn't follow his orders so she literally does not have a choice to cut him off.
His father seems super powerfull, since even if his husband love her, he got divorced coz of the father. Its either cut ties or endanger your son& husband.
the mom's actions?? I get she was under a lot of pressure, but she is fully in control of her own actions, and if cutting contact with her dad is what she needed to do to be in her children's lives, then that's what she should have done :')
