Heinrey promised to put his wife over anything else and to protect her, so in his perspective, Navier getting hurt means he failed as her husband.
He thinks that he's no better than Sovieshit

he's just putting on a fake smile for his wife.
Heinrey, even with all his good deeds, is a selfish man, that's his flaw. Even if he thinks that Navier would continuously get hurt by having her at his side, he still puts on a facade that everything is fine and then do heinous crimes to the people who hurt her.

He needs to act like the perfect smiley husband because he's hiding the horrible things that he does.

Thank you! I thought it was because Navier dreamt about Sovieshit and mumbled his name while she was unconsciuos.

    oh nah
if I remembered correctly in the novel, Heinrey avoiding Navier is not next to the dream scene, something was in the middle of it. That's why we have different interpretation on that smile.
