There’s a specific genre of stories like these where the animals are real animals (as seen in the photo frame in their house), but WE the viewer see them as humanoid, when in fact they aren’t. So it’s not like they are being treated as slaves , they are real animals just changed for story telling.
Atleast im pretty sure… because I’ve seen that done a lot in other stories. And chapter 4 the photo frame makes them look like a normal cat and dog..

This is kind of disgusting?? Not bc of the animal characteristics, but because even though they are capable of rational thought and speaking, they are treated like pets. They seem to be able to read, but aren't educated nor do they wear proper clothes, not to mention the collars and leashes. It's also gross bc the dog and cat grew together, so they are siblings for me.
