I can see that happening, it’s either that or that the boyfriend would pull some bs saying “ we were dating?” (I’ve seen it happening in a different manga can’t remember the name tho)
It's always like that, be it BL or just straight romance, like, "you can make out with me bc your partner is a cheater or a abusive bitch". Come on, just show that they are a flawed cheater instead of those pretense.
I don't support cheating, but the author will prob justify it by making the boyfriend be a cheater before the MC
